词义的省转补
英译汉中词性词义的转换目的是为了正确表达原文的意义和使译文更加符合汉语的表达习惯。由于英汉两种语言的词汇在词义范围和搭配等方面不尽相同，翻译时不能逐词对译，为了正确表达原文内容，需要改变个别词的词性，如把原文的名词、形容词、副词、介词转译为汉语中的动词，而原文中的动词、形容词、代词等又需要根据实际需要改变成汉语中的名词。例如：
1) The target is wrong, for in attacking the tests, critics divert attention from the fault that lies with ill-informed or incompetent users. （1995年）
2) One difficulty is that almost all of what is called behavioral science continues to trace behavior to states of mind, feelings, traits of character, human nature, and so on.(2002年)
3) The behavioral sciences have been slow to change partly because the explanatory items often seem to be directly observed and partly because other kinds of explanations have been hard to find. （2002年）
4) While there are almost as many definitions of history as there are historians, modern practice most closely conforms to one that sees history as the attempt to recreate and explain the significant events of the past. （1999年）
