The man who fronts TV warnings about swine flu has now been struck down with the illness himself.
David McCusker currently appears in a Department of Health ad which demonstrates the correct way to sneeze in order to combat the ongoing spread of the virus.
After McCusker is shown sneezing into a tissue, viewers are encouraged to remember basic hygiene with the tagline ’catch it, bin it, kill it’.
The 30-year-old has now told The Sun: "I was supposed to ’catch it, bin it, kill it’. But instead I’ve been shivering, shaking and spreading it."
McCusker called the Government’s national helpline after developing a cold and fever before being diagnosed and prescribed with tamiflu.
He added: "It was a shock when I found out. I quarantined myself to sweat it out. I’ve been getting lots of stick from mates. I caught it, didn’t bin it and spread it all over the place."
H1N1 flu is said to have so far affected 193,000 people worldwide.
