今从网上搜索台湾《联合报》一则报道，台南女中应届毕业生谢孟臻大学指定科目考试（简称指考）英文九十九点五分，是全台湾最高分。谢孟臻的父母都是医师，父亲是医学博士，她三岁随父母到美国，六岁才回台湾读小学。谢爸爸说，孟臻在美国读了三年幼儿园，但没学什么英文，英文底子都是台湾打的。谢孟臻说，她喜欢阅读英文书籍，小学一年级就看短篇英文小说，小学四年级看哈利波特，之后开始读英文长篇小说。她超爱英文写作，习惯写下阅读心得。谢孟臻的爸妈说，小孩学英文大都着重文法、写作，这种应付考试的学习方式，反而限制孩子的学习。谢孟臻这次指考数学成绩不错，但国文没考好，她的第一志愿是台大财经系。导师詹雅琳说，她的国英数都很棒，尤其英文特别好，但没想到是全台湾最高分。
