众所周知，副词修饰形容词、动词等，译成汉语相应的修饰词即可，译为“……地”，在句中作状语。可在翻译实践中，并非都如此。
　　一、英语-ly 副词转译成其它词类或句子。
　　1．转译成动词或动词性短语
　　When her husband climbed menacingly towards her, she threw herself out of the tree.
　　当他丈夫爬上树，面带怒容逼近她时，她纵身向树下跳去。
　　The advertisement was understandably less than effective.
　　该广告收效甚微可以理解。
　　2．转译成形容词或形容词性短语
　　…so that King George would move out of England and settle peaceably in Delaware
　　……以便使乔治国王离开英国，在特拉华过平静的生活。
　　He routinely radioed another agent on the ground．
　　他跟另一个地勤人员进行了例行的无线电联络。
　　注：上述两例中，英语动词译成汉语名词，修饰该动词的副词相应地转译成形容词，修饰汉语名词。
　　3．转译成名词或名词性短语
　　The risks involved in doing this are high, however, because good themes are often culturally oriented.
　　然而这样做的风险是很大的，因为好的主题常常是适应文化的。
　　4．转译成介词短语
　　Montreal (host of the 1976 Summer Games) reportedly lost 1 billion.
　　据报道，蒙特利尔（1976年夏季奥运会的东道主）损失了10亿美元。
　　5．副词自身或与被修饰的词转译成固定短语或成语
　　Jim proudly insists on taking the consequences of his cowardly action．
　　吉姆自尊自重，坚持要承担自己懦弱行为所造成的恶果。
　　We may safely say so.
　　我们这样说万无一失。
　　6．将句子副词译成句子
　　A grenade thrown from the tower burst harmlessly on the ground．
　　炮楼里扔出一颗手榴弹，在地上爆炸，但没有伤到人。（转折关系）
　　二、英语-ly副词转译后，在句中可充当各种成分。
　　It was officially announced that…
　　官方宣布……（作主语）
　　The shores on either land were more than a half mile spart, but they seemed wonderfully far away.
　　虽然河两岸之间的距离只有半英里多，但是它们似乎惊人地遥远。（作状语）
　　The American firm was unknowingly advertising that "You could use no finer diaper at your dinner table."
　　这家美国公司没有察觉到它的广告是说“在餐桌上没有比这更好的尿布了”。（作谓语）
　　President had prepared meticulously for his journey.
　　总统为这次出访做了十分周密的准备。（作定语）
　　三、译-ly副词时除用到词类转译法，还使用了其它方法。
　　The subversion attempts proved predictably futile.
　　不出所料，颠覆活动证明毫无效果。（英语从正面表达，译文从反面表达。）
　　Many agreed that the Prime Minister had in effect resigned dishonorably．
　　许多人认为首相辞职实际上是很丢面子的。（英语从反面表达，译文从正面表达。）
　　The wretched run-down rail services of America are something I try, vainly, to forget.
　　美国铁路交通的糟糕是一件我想尽力忘却的事，可这是徒劳。（将句子副词另行处理，置于句尾，用拆译法）
